Bring your family to enjoy Playa Negra, a small beach town with lots of culture and one of the most famous surfing waves of Costa Rica.
Playa Negra is located south of Hacienda Pinilla and Playa Avellanas on a dirt road that is still unpaved. A 4×4 is recommended during rainy season.
Many beautiful holiday rentals in Playa Negra have been built on the shore just north and south of the main surfing wave in developments Rancho Playa Negra and Caramar.
Vacation rentals in Playa Negra can also be found in the hills further back from the Pacific Ocean with great views. Some of them like Pura Jungla are intentionally built to the level of the branches of the trees so you can see tropical birds and monkeys that pass.
In the center of Playa Negra, at the mouth of the road to Hotel Playa Negra is where most of the restaurants, surf shops and convenience stores are located. You may want to consider stocking up on groceries at one of the larger supermarkets in Santa Cruz, Villareal, Tamarindo, or Belen.
