Limon, Playa Chiquita
Built entirely from fallen Nispero (loquat) trees that oxen dragged from deep in the rainforest, the Beach House lies 80m from the beach, so you can actually lie in bed and watch waves lap the beach. A thatched dome roof, shuttered windows and rattan walls keep it cool and airy inside and a beautiful wooden staircase spirals up through the centre.
This is a split-level design, with a master bedroom on the top floor and an open-plan living space down below – home to a second double bed, a sitting area and a kitchen. The house is great for families (2-5) and there’s an additional single bed for kids who don’t want to share a double with a sibling.
The organically shaped bathroom is enclosed yet light, thanks to a glass roof, and made entirely from stone, with a walk-in shower and plants throughout.
Rates: $ 250 per night for 2 persons, all year thru. Ad $ 50 per night for each extra person.

The house is located on a 10 acre ocean front property in the famous Punta Uva beach, just south of Puerto Viejo in the province of Limon. Total privacy, a natural tranquil atmosphere, and full relaxation are keywords for the time you will spend at this property. With your own beach access and 300 meter beach front, you won’t have to meet anybody else during your stay at this romantic hideaway. The water is safe and no riptide or dangerous coral reefs are reported. The small bay of Playa Chiquita is just at 300 meters from the beach entrance.
Every day at 4 o’clock a group of people meet to play volleyball on the beach. Young and old are welcome to join. You can also paddle a kayak up the peaceful rivers and trough the mangroves swamps that meet the sea at the idyllic beach of Punta Uva. Kayaks are available for rent on the beach in front of the Ranchito restaurant.
The botanic garden is one of a kind. Over 50 different palm trees are growing in the garden and there is the largest Heliconia collection in the area. The house is hidden between tropical plants. The extended gardens are the favoured place for many exotic birds. In the morning, you shouldn’t be surprised if you look out of your window and see the howler monkeys around your house. They wake up early and they won’t hesitate to let you know they are awake.
